Top-ranked and UGC-recognized private university UPES was founded by the State Government of Uttarakhand through the UPES Act, 2003. According to the QS World University Rankings 2025, UPES is placed 801–850 globally in the ‘World University’ category. UPES is ranked 52 overall, with particular rankings of 54 in engineering and 39 in management, according to the Ministry of Education, Government of India’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023.
According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, UPES is ranked among the top 3% of universities worldwide and is the top private university in India for academics. With an “A” accreditation from the NAAC and a 5-star rating for Employability (placements) from QS Rating, UPES has a flawless five-year placement history. Notably, Stanford University has named 41 faculty members in the top 2% of researchers worldwide.
