Kakatiya University was set up in 1976, to fulfill the higher education need of the people of Telangana. The university is located in the historical city, Warangal, the erstwhile seat of the Kakatiya rulers. It has a spacious Central Library on the campus with a rich collection of about 1,54,000 books, 30,000 back volumes of research journals, 4000 Theses, and Dissertations. The Kakatiya university distance education came into existence in 1986 for imparting distance education to remotely located students.

The School is located on the Main Campus of Kakatiya University. The buildings include the administrative block as well as the academic block. These two blocks accommodate the main Academic Division, Computer Labs., Media Production Unit, Library, and Reading Hall. Admission process in Kakatiya university distance education
Admission to the university is offline. Candidates are required to download the application form from the official website or get it from the SDLCE head office or centers. Distinctive features of Kakatiya university distance education
Some of the distinctive features of the university are:
1. Library Services:
There has been a steady increase in the book collection in the library to help the learners gain more information about the subjects. Presently the lending facility of books to the students and self-help groups is undertaken on a first -come first served basis. In certain courses, the students are issued two books for the course study.
2. Self-help Peer-groups:
The students who comes from a similar place or interior region are encouraged to form peer group to share their knowledge and resource. Such groups help the student among themselves and discuss in the classroom contact program.
3. Round Tables:
The opportunities are being created for the students from different faculties to voice their views and share the news at the student’s round table. At every gathering, about 20 students and a few faculty members attend to exchange ideas, and express their suggestions on the aspects of support services besides debate on the latest events concerning their subjects and topics relevant to society.
4. Student Affairs:
Three separate cells relating to student guidance, student grievance, and placement cell have started functioning to establish better interaction with the student community and solve individual problems relating to academic matters, employment information, career guidance, etc.
5. Assignments:
the learning at the center is based on the two-way communication. As per the course, the assignments are sent to the distance learners and are submitted by them at the center. The teacher also evaluates and return them after making the appropriate corrections.
6. Academic assistance:
the faculty is available to answer the queries of the students over the telephone on weekdays. The students can clear their doubts and solve their problems while being on the telephone line. Moreover, the students who drop out before the degree completion can easily get back and give the exams whenever possible.
7. Radio lessons:
SDLCE has initiated in a moderate way to provide Radio lessons of 15 minutes to half an hour per day on all days, especially from October-December and January- March every year. They announce the program detail in advance by an arrangement with AIR, Warangal.
8. Personal contact program:
Though the university provides the study material to all students as per the course applied but it also initiates PCP for learners. During PCP the important topics are taught and the doubts about them are also cleared. The School adopts the counseling of the course syllabi through two sessions. Firstly with “Contact Programmes” being conducted on Sundays/holidays. Secondly with the “Regular Contact Programme” for a short period. The scheduled program of these two sessions for the complete course will be communicated in advance covering all the details.
9. Examination:
The exams are conducted at the end of each year in the study centers. Students can write their exams in English and Telugu (a prior permission is required). The minimum passing mark is 40 and the promotion is given to the candidates on the basis of performance.
